Well
« on: 15 Feb 2012 - 10:16:07 »
Jenna got me a crossbow for V-Day. Its an inexpensive one but I think it'll do well for what I want it for. I don't plan on hunting with it and its only going to be for shooting in the backyard. I'm pretty happy but I guess I need a bow stringing tool because that motherlover is hard as hell to string. Its 150lb, I guess recurve would be the proper term (curves in the opposite direction at the ends) and its VERY light. I'll post a pic as soon as I can. For less than 100 bucks I think I'll be happy with it.

Anybody know a trick to stringing it without the stringer? Nobody has any locally and I'm itching to get in the backyard and try it out.

I never had much use for one but I could see them as an alternative to a suppressed weapon in a SHTF.

I don't know if its of good enough quality to use as a survival weapon. Some are, mine isnt. I've seen where the 300 grain bolts traveled at about 220 fps. Seems decent though.

It's a little more than I'd want to spend on one but, I like the compound crossbow they show further down on the page.

I'm sorry........perhaps I wasn't specific enough. I was referring to the COMPOUND crossbow that was listed further down on the page after I clicked on the link you provided.  ;)

I had one for awhile. Don't recall the brand but it was a 150 pounder. I bought a cocking lever which helped a lot. Tried it hunting jacks in the California desert. I lost a bunch of bolts that way. Gave it up and sold it.

I have 4 at the house. They are securely in charge. If i do not bring them good things to eat while im in, they kick me out. i will have to stage a coup when i get done with over the road driving just to have my house back.

I like the fact that my cat comes to me when he wants food, water or attention. It's not like a dog that's all over you every waking second of ever damn day, he leaves me alone until he needs something, then it's back to being left alone once his needs are met.

WTF?!?! How is that even possible? The only way I can even imagine that happening is if the draw length is longer than the arrow.

The first time I saw this was on GFE. I believe the article said that this guy was trying out a bow at Bass Pro Shop and the clerk gave him a short arrow. I hope he got to keep the bow  :P

Yeah.............see.........I knew it had to be something of that nature. With a propery sized arrow, the head should be just ahead of the arrow rest at full draw which would make that kind of accident, physically impossible.
