Been MIA for a bit but, I'm back now.
« on: 20 Aug 2017 - 20:09:23 »
The motherboard on my 15+ year old computer, finally bit the dust.
I'm using an old Dell Inspiron zino HD for now just so I can get online but, I'm working on getting a better one.

This Dell kinda sucks. The DVD ROM drive doesn't work at all and it's only 1.6 Ghz, which is exactly half the speed of my old computer.

Welcome back.  Amazing how dependent we have become on technology!

No kidding! I never thought I'd hear myself say this but, I think I actually experienced internet DT's.

If you need a second magazine its time to call in air support.

I just found a heck of a deal on a PC at newegg.com. It's refurbished but, I can live with that. As long as the motherboard and processor hold up, it'll do just fine.

It's an HP Pro 3130 MT with a 2nd gen I3-560 3.3 Ghz dual core, 4 GB DDR3 RAM (max of 16), 500 GB hard drive, and Windows 7 pro. It has integrated video and sound but, I can worry about upgrading those at a later date. It does come with 1 DVDRW drive but, I plan to use the 2 drives from my old unit. Both are Samsung brand and one is a Lightscribe DVDRW and the other is just a standard DVD drive. I also have a solid state hard drive that I'm going to use instead of the one it comes with. It has 8 USB ports and I'm hoping it has the necessary cables to use the card reader from my old unit since it doesn't come with one.

Anyway............the whole package is only $159.

I ordered my computer Tuesday morning and it arrived Friday afternoon.
The same day I ordered it, I got a call from them and the guy informed me that there was an issue with the one I ordered.............the case was all scratched up and it had a 1st gen I3 in it. (my original post stated it had a 2nd gen but, I was mistaken. That was a different system I had looked at previously, that had Windows 10 on it which, I don't like at all).

So anyway, they upgraded my order free of charge to an HP 6200 with 10 USB (6 rear and 4 front) slots and a 2nd gen I3. The rest of the internals are the same and even though the clock speed is technically 0.1 Ghz slower than my old PC, due to the dual core.........this thing is blazing fast.
I'm VERY happy with my purchase.
