Update on the Old Grey Beast
« on: 19 Nov 2014 - 20:00:53 »
http://beastbuildlog.blogspot.com/2014/11/got-it-running-sorry-for-lack-of-updates.html

Finally got around to updating my build log.  I don't have any social network presence anymore so I'll just post updates here :)

EDIT: Oh and here's the task list as it is now - http://beastbuildlog.blogspot.com/2012/04/to-do-list.html

Glad to see you're making progress. I managed to get the old Mustang to roll so I could get it out of the woods, but haven't managed to get it home as of yet because Uhaul won't rent me a trailer...seems they won't rent one for behind a Jeep Cherokee unless it's a GRAND Cherokee, for some reason, and my old 1985 truck, while it has a hell of a receiver and hitch on it, there's no label or stamping with the weight rating, so once again they won't rent a trailer to me! Waiting on payment for a big order of my sight tools next week, and just going to bite the bullet and install a new 6000lb receiver hitch on the truck I guess.

Should be able to get a box receiver for 10-12,000 that might cost you $30 extra if you look around.  Never know when you might need that old bull to tow a bit more.  There is not alot of difference in those things from appearance.

Or take your own punch set, mark it yourself and go to another rental place.

Huh, that's weird.  I got my 5000lb trailer receiver on craigslist for $60 I believe.

All I've found on Craigslist are for the newer Chebbie pickups and won't fit the 85. New one is only  $140 shipped but poured out a bunch of $$$ this past couple weeks on an AR build and brakes on the Cherokee so gotta wait until more $$$ comes in, or the 1st of the month whichever comes first. Tandemkross said they were going to send a PO and check this week for 100 more sight tools, but haven't seen it yet.

Are they that much different?  The hitch I got for mine was for a 1998 Frontier.  I just had to drill some extra holes in it to be able to mount it.

Not sure, I know that the one for mine has to have cutouts to go around the spring perches that wrap around the bottom and side of the frame. I called on one Dodge one and it was WAAAY wider than my frame width. I do have a decent little MIG welder but time is at a premium for me these next few months so being able to bolt it up is a very desirable feature.

Writer Uhaul just wants to see the weight rating on the carrier hitch. when i bought my reese for the S10 to haul my 8n it came with a sticker that i put on my carrier hitch. the uhaul guy i rented from looked at it and made sure i had a 4 pin light hookup.
